The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) appoints the Building-Development Commission (BDC) as an
advisory board to Code Enforcement. Membership includes representation from the design, construction and development
communities, as well as the public. Check out www.meckpermit.com and go to “About Us” for more information. Contact
your representative if you have any specific issues you would like the BDC to consider.

The following is a brief summary of significant matters impacting the design and construction community on which
the Building Development Commission and the Code Enforcement Department have focused on from October 1,
2023, through December 31, 2023. Further details on each of these follows:

  • STAFFING UPDATE
  • BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE PREPARATION
  • 2023 BDC MEMBER ATTENDANCE

1. Staffing Update
Tejinder Singh has left Mecklenburg County. He is now working for the City of Charlotte. We wish him well
and will be looking to fill that position. We will continue to talk about the realignment.

2. Budget Subcommittee Preparation
We are now working with Stephanie, Melanie, Andy, Ted in the Fire Marshal’s office to get a financial picture
in budget preparation. We are starting to build burn rates, license costs and our operational costs. We are
starting to equip ourselves in preparation of that. We are also building our schedule and will get back to you
on the upcoming dates. The first meeting will go through burn rates, trends, volume, technology and
enhancements. The 2nd meeting is about preparation for FY25 and that’s really where we start as we validate
where the BDC is currently. The last meeting is the vote meeting with all BDC members where we tool
ourselves and take that information to Ebenezer. EB carries our proposal to Dena with timelines. Everyone in
the room is in the construction industry and we all know that rising costs in everything has gone up. This is
something Stephanie has been managing. We need to figure out some dates to meet. Rebecca and Stephanie
will be working on dates for the upcoming Budget Subcommittee meetings. This is a lunch time event that
takes two hours considered a working lunch in which we feed the subcommittee.. Aaron Moody and Brian
Pace along with Keith Aull have volunteered to participate on the committee. Paul Stefano has also
volunteered.

3. 2023 BDC Attendance
In the 2023 Calendar year, we had exemplary attendance by all board members and all members met the
required attendance. All BDC members met the attendance requirement policy and remained on the board for
the calendar year 2024. Congratulations to all the board members of the Building Development Commission.
