  1. County Manager Dena R. Diorio Announces Retirement

    Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio announced today her plans for retirement. Diorio is currently serving her 11th year as County Manager.  She informed the Board of County Commissioners during a closed session on Wednesday, August 7. Diorio’s retirement will be effective July 1, 2025.

    With extreme high temperatures and heat indices forecast Aug. 1 and Aug. 2, Charlotte-Mecklenburg government agencies and partners are activating additional resources to assist vulnerable residents.

  4. Do the Write Thing: Mecklenburg Students Share Their Stories on a National Stage

    Two middle school students represented Mecklenburg County as national ambassadors at the Do the Write Thing (DtWT) Recognition Summit July 20 - 24. The two students’ writing samples were chosen out of 933 entries from 30 Charlotte-Mecklenburg middle schools. Students submitted poems, essays, and stories about how acts of violence have affected them. Most students wrote about cyberbullying, school fights, or gun violence. Qui’Arie and Justice were invited to Washington D.C. alongside 52 other middle schoolers, as well as their guardians and teachers.  

  5. Veterans Benefits Live: Three-Day Open House to Offer In-Person Support to Vets

    Mecklenburg County Veterans Services and other partners are sponsoring Veterans Benefits Live: VA in My Town: Mecklenburg County. Aug. 22-24, the single-stop open house will help veterans and their families or caregivers navigate the many services available to them. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other partners will help attendees one-on-one with their benefits, claims, appeals and other concerns.  

  6. ​2024 Property Tax Bills Will Be Mailed by July 31

    Mecklenburg County will mail 2024 bills for real property, individual personal property, and business personal property taxes by July 31, 2024. Bills are due Sept. 1, 2024, and must be paid by Jan. 6, 2025, to avoid interest.  

  7. Tax Collector Neal Dixon Retiring

    Neal Dixon, Tax Collector for Mecklenburg County, will be retiring at the end of July. After serving the County for nearly 30 years, Neal has been an invaluable part of countless projects and will leave an enduring legacy.  

  8. County CFO David Boyd Wins Government CFO of the Year Award from Charlotte Business Journal

    The Charlotte Business Journal (CBJ) has named Mecklenburg County’s chief financial officer, David Boyd, the 2024 Chief Financial Officer of the Year for a Civic/Government Organization. Boyd was honored at CBJ’s 2024 CFO of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, July 18.  

  9. Mecklenburg County Public Information Earns Awards of Excellence

    Mecklenburg County has been recognized with eight 2024 Achievement Awards from the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO). NACIO honors the innovative, creative and outstanding work of county government communicators throughout the nation.  

  10. HOMES Program Returns to Help Mecklenburg County Homeowners 

    The Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) Program returns for another season, which began July 1, 2024. Mecklenburg County is partnering again with the City of Charlotte to help homeowners struggling with the rising costs of living.
