Restaurant Hood Gas Test (RH)
Mecklenburg County has implemented a tool called the "Restaurant Hood Gas Test" (RH) to more effectively allow qualified customers to apply for temporary gas to test mechanical equipment rather than misusing the Temporary Heat (TH) or Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO). There will be an inspection task (for restaurants or similar projects) which may be requested on the Mechanical Permit when it becomes necessary to test gas equipment before a Temporary Occupancy or a Certificate of Occupancy may be issued, e.g. Restaurant Hood Gas Test (RH). Once the inspector approves (passes) an RH inspection and enters a Service Code for the Utility Company, the gas connect request will automatically be sent via the Internet to the gas company named on the Mechanical Permit.
The fee charged for the Restaurant Hood Gas Test (RH) shall be one of three amounts depending on the number of square feet of the Building associated with the project. The fee schedule for Restaurant Hood Gas Test is as follows:
Less than 3,000 sq. ft. = $90
From 3,000 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. = $100
Greater than 10,000 sq. ft. = $150
These fees will be charged to the General (Building) Contractor on the related Building Permit or to the Mechanical Contractor, if a stand-alone permit.
Please be advised that the above inspection fees will be charged for failed inspections, as well as inspections resulted as "Inaccessible" for the inspector.
